Bel Canto Award

Members will be interested to hear that Emma Moore (soprano), the winner of the Joan Carden Award in 2011, who sang the role of Michal in our performance that year of Handel’s Saul, has reached the final of this year’s Richard Bonynge and Joan Sutherland Bel Canto Award.

Emma is taking a few weeks break from her studies in Germany, where she is on a full German Government scholarship for her Masters course in Opera at the University of the Arts in Berlin. She will sing in the Bel Canto final in the Verbrugghen Hall of the Sydney Conservatorium at 3.00 pm on Sunday, 7 October. Adjudicators are Richard Bonynge, Joan Carden, Bernadette Cullen and Rosemary Gunn.

Another of the finalists is Anna Dowsley (mezzo soprano), who was singled out for encouragement by the judges in this year’s Joan Carden Award, and, accordingly, will be given an engagement as soloist in one of our forthcoming concerts..

Tickets cost $40 for adults, $35 for pensioners and $20 for students.

Call: (02) 9817 4919 or (02) 4861 2440 for  Visa or Mastercard  bookings.
