Patron’s Award 2013

At the Sydney University Graduate Choir’s recent performance of the St John Passion, the choir’s patron, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, Governor of New South Wales, presented Ms Ros Moxham with the Patron’s Award for 2013. The choir’s president, Evelyne De Clercq spoke highly of Ros’s commitment to the choir, and in particular the chamber choir:

“Ros Moxham has been a member of the Choir since 1999.

To me, the most significant attributes of Ros’s character are her equal measures of capacity for hard work on behalf of the choir and her desire not to be recognised for the contribution she has made. I understand that her first response to being nominated as the Patron’s Award recipient was to decline and suggest other worthy recipients. This is no false modesty, but a tendency towards self-effacement and a no-nonsense approach to getting on with the job of supporting the music director in his ceaseless task of improving the vocal quality and musicality of the choir.

Since Ros joined the choir, she has been a vocal force to be reckoned with among the sopranos, where her organisation, teaching and leadership skills were soon recognised. She has acted in volunteer roles as soprano voice leader, organising and leading sectional rehearsals to polish and develop the soprano vocal quality and ensemble singing.

She has been a member of the chamber choir since its inception in 2005 and has frequently coordinated and led chamber choir rehearsals, ably supporting our conductor in his role.

We appreciate enormously the time and effort she devotes to improving the quality of the chamber choir, and the choir as a whole.

Ros is indeed a worthy recipient of this award, which recognises the contribution she makes to the choir through her talent, generosity and enthusiasm.”

Congratulations Ros.
